Natural Disaster Liability Insurance – How Can Our Society Cope with the Growing Risk of Natural Hazards?

On April 30, 2026, experts from academia and the insurance industry gathered at a plenary session of the German Association of Actuaries (DAV) to discuss the future of insurance coverage for natural hazards in light 
of increasing natural risks. The discussion focused on whether and in what form mandatory insurance could serve as a viable model in Germany.
