The IVS-Forum

Every autumn, the IVS organises a specialist event for all actuaries who are interested in the topics of occupational pensions and general questions about the structure of our pension system in Germany. Renowned speakers on current specialist issues, discussion rounds and insights into the work of the Pension Committee will ensure a varied and challenging programme, which will be rounded off by networking opportunities.

The IVS General Assembly will take place immediately after the IVS Forum.

That was the IVS Forum 2026: Key insights for pension provision

The 20th IVS Forum, held on 22 September 2026 in Cologne, focused on current developments in old-age provision. To kick off the event, Stefan Oecking, Christiane Grabinski and Dr Friedemann Lucius provided an overview of the recommendations of the Old-Age Provision Commission (ASK) and the IVS’s position. The introduction of a net replacement rate of 70 per cent as the minimum pension level, as well as the cross-pillar approach to pension provision, are viewed positively. At the same time, the IVS emphasises that a strong and comprehensive occupational pension scheme is essential to achieving this level.

Further presentations on the ASK’s recommendations highlighted the actuarial expertise required even within the first pillar of old-age provision, the financing of the statutory pension scheme, the significance of the 70 per cent net replacement rate for occupational pension schemes, and the Swedish premium-based pension model. Other presentation topics included the accounting principles for pension funds and profit-sharing in pension funds.

To conclude, Mark Walddörfer, Dr Friedemann Lucius and Stefan Oecking provided information on the future development of the HEUBECK mortality tables. The IVS will provide technical support for their compilation in future. The life tables will be updated in 2028; thereafter, regular updates are planned at seven-year intervals. This year’s IVS Forum concluded with a presentation on the socio-economic effects that can be demonstrated in pension data.
