As the professional organisation representing actuaries in Germany, we deal with a wide range of current and relevant topics from the insurance and financial sector. As part of their specialist work, the DAV and IVS address current developments in the technological, economic, regulatory, social and political environment with a view to the continuous further development of the actuarial profession. The specialist actuarial work carried out by the four sector-specific and four cross-sector specialist committees is indispensable for the DAV's independent expertise and all positioning vis-à-vis the press, politicians and the public.

Health insurance
Private health insurance plays an important socio-political role and is therefore subject to detailed regulations. Actuaries have to operate in this area of tension between actuarial requirements, corporate responsibility and socio-political mandate. Their tasks include product development, market analyses, premium calculations and the preparation of annual financial statements, taking into account national and international valuation regulations. They also take care of premium refunds and mathematically secure the underwriting principles. We support actuaries in all these areas so that they can successfully master their demanding tasks.

Accounting and Regulation
Accounting and regulation are of fundamental importance for the transparency and integrity of financial reporting. On the one hand, we deal with all national and international accounting topics, in particular HGB and IFRS 17, in order to obtain an overall picture of these subject areas; on the other hand, cross-divisional aspects of national and international insurance supervisory law are addressed. The project initiated by the IAIS on global capital standards (ICS) is also receiving expert support, as are the reporting obligations on the topic of sustainability. Issues relating to the auditability and validation of complex models are also addressed.

Actuarial Data Science
Digitalisation and data-based business models are fundamentally changing the work of actuaries. With their in-depth knowledge of actuarial mathematics and data science, they are predestined to be data scientists in the insurance and finance industry. We support them in their daily work and offer extensive training and further education programmes. In this way, we help actuaries to expand their traditional areas of responsibility and make the most of the opportunities offered by digitalisation.
