What actuaries do
The German Association of Actuaries (Deutsche Aktuarvereinigung, DAV) is the independent professional association of actuaries in Germany and awards the title of DAV actuary. Actuaries are specially trained mathematicians who generally work in the insurance and finance sectors, with a wide range of activities within the value chain.
Their core competence in all areas is to assess risks in a constantly changing world and make them manageable. They are continuously dealing with new developments and the interpretation of data. Accordingly, the DAV's motto is “We calculate with the future.”
The work of actuaries thus fulfills not only a scientific requirement but also a social mission.
What external communication does
To fulfill this mission, we engage in dialogue with various social groups and offer our expertise in the process. In doing so, we contribute fact-based perspectives to social debates and provide guidance in complex contexts. The external communications department of the DAV (and other affiliated or associated institutions) coordinates all communication with the press, external target groups, politicians, associations, specialist institutions, and the interested public.
As a full-time team, we support our volunteer members and the associations themselves in communicating their high level of expertise to the public and interested parties by organizing professional exchanges, preparing information, and implementing various communication measures.
We report on actuarial topics in press briefings, press conferences, and publications, hold bilateral discussions with politicians, institutions, associations, and academia, monitor legislative proposals, and offer public and internal dialogue formats on various topics such as old-age provision, the consequences of climate change, healthcare, investment, data science, and other areas that actuaries deal with.

My name is Meher Mia, I am a political communications officer and I am available to politicians, professional associations and social stakeholders in particular as a contact person for the organisation of professional exchange.
