ESG – More than just "Climate"

The German Association of Actuaries (DAV) looks beyond climate change and environmental influences. The DAV believes that a meaningful and coherent definition of sustainability is required and therefore emphasises the importance of social (S) and governance (G) as a basis for the sustainability assessment of companies (ESG) in addition to the ecological aspect (Ecological - E).

In recent years, the so-called ‘ESG’ criteria have established themselves as a key instrument for assessing the sustainability of companies. The abbreviation stands for environmental, social and governance. While environmental sustainability is known and accepted today, social sustainability and sustainable governance are currently receiving less public attention.
The German Actuarial Association (DAV) can and would like to contribute to making this principle applicable to S as well.

TheAnnual Meeting of the DAV and DGVFM 2024 began on 24 April 2024 with a panel discussion on the topic of ‘The S in ESG - what the insurance industry can contribute to social sustainability’.

More on this topic on our german website.

Moderated by Philipp Krohn from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Dr Maximilian Happacher, Dr Klaus Mühleder and Daniel Weiß discussed the role of the insurance industry with regard to social sustainability on 24 April 2024.
