Application of Big Data in health insurance
Abstract
The report addresses questions related to the use of Big Data in health insurance. The factual scope of this study covers the use of Big Data and data analytics in product and pricing design, underwriting, surplus distribution, as well as other applications in the broader context of health insurance (e.g., portfolio analyses, claims management, health management, corporate planning, etc.). Furthermore, issues related to data sources, data processing, and statistical methods in connection with Big Data are discussed. Finally, aspects of data protection are addressed. The findings presented in the report represent interim results of the Big Data working group. The working group plans to continue its work with a focus on concrete calculations and to publish the results in a subsequent report.
The report is intended for the members and committees of the German Actuarial Association (DAV) to inform them about the current state of discussion and findings achieved. It does not represent an officially endorsed professional position of the DAV.
