Impact of demographic effects on health insurance
Abstract
The report addresses the impact of selected demographic factors on health insurance. It begins with a critical appraisal of the fourth report on the sustainability of public finances by the Federal Ministry of Finance, focusing on the assumptions regarding the development of medical expenditure and the resulting conclusions on expenditure ratios. Furthermore, the report examines the influence of demographics on both private and statutory health insurance, taking into account the development of contributions in full insurance and long-term care insurance (particularly in the context of interest rate trends), as well as the contribution rate in statutory health insurance. Finally, it includes quantifications of the future health care market and an analysis of long-term investments under the funded pension scheme.
The report is addressed to the members and committees of the German Actuarial Association (DAV) to inform them about the current state of discussion and findings achieved. It does not represent an officially endorsed professional position of the DAV.
