Review

How do artificial intelligence and climate change affect the daily work of actuaries? What can German insurers learn from Ireland and Japan? What does the outcome of the US elections mean for the capital markets? These and many other exciting questions were discussed at the autumn conference of the DAV and DGVFM.

More than 1,150 actuaries gathered in Mannheim and online this week to learn about the latest topics in the profession, discuss the latest trends, and talk about the future of the association.

Dr. Max Happacher, Chairman of the DAV, gave an introductory presentation at the DAV internal meeting on the current status of work on the completely revamped website www.aktuar.de, which has been recently modernized in line with the associations' new design. Technical innovations include mobile usability, a central search function for technical papers and magazines, and a complete translation into English. The new homepage is expected to go online in early December.

Susanna Adelhardt, deputy chairwoman of the DAV, then explained the strategic objective recently agreed upon by the DAV's executive board under the title “Road to Active Membership,” which aims to provide a common strategic framework for the range of services developed over many years in the area of promoting young talent. The aim is to make relevant target groups (including school pupils, students, parents, and teachers) aware of the actuarial profession at an even earlier stage and in a more consistent manner, as well as to network prospective and recently admitted members with each other and actively introduce them to the work of the association. Specific goals and measures are to be further developed in the coming months and, in particular, open up opportunities for interested members to also get involved in this area. In this context, Susanne Adelhardt called on members to register for the young talent pool.

In the last part of DAV intern, Dr. Happacher gave a brief preview of the 125th anniversary of the profession, which the association will celebrate in particular with a high-caliber professional congress specially organized for the anniversary from April 26 to 28, 2028, in Berlin. He concluded by thanking the more than 30 industry partners who have already pledged their support as sponsors of the anniversary year.
