Future Actuarial Research Workshop
"Looking FAR ahead in actuarial science."
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Versicherungs- und Finanzmathematik e.V. (German Society for Insurance and Financial Mathematics) will host the first workshop for young researchers in Reisensburg (near Ulm) from March 18 to 20, 2026. Organized by the DGVFM’s Research & Transfer Committee, the event aims to foster the development of a strong and sustainable community of early-career researchers in actuarial science.
Our FAR workshop is designed to support young researchers by providing them with opportunities to present their work, receive detailed feedback from experienced professors in that field, and engage in discussion with established scholars. A key aim is to foster exchange and collaboration between junior and senior researchers in actuarial science. The workshop will also include talks on the latest research in the field, each to be led by one of our senior researchers An Chen, Marcus Christiansen, Alfred Müller, Jörn Sass, Maren Schmeck, Mogens Steffensen, and Mario Wüthrich. Those senior academics will provide feedback on junior researchers’ presentations.
We welcome submissions from early-career researchers pursuing a doctorate or engaged in postdoctoral studies in actuarial science. The workshop offers two formats:
Paper sessions for (post)doctoral candidates who have obtained initial results and can submit a working paper.
Mini presentations for PhD students in the early stages of their research who would like to present their research plans but are not yet ready to share results.
In order for us to get a first idea of your research project, please send us an extended abstract of 1–2 pages which includes the motivation for the paper, outline the research question, identify the contribution to the literature, describe the methodology, and report the (expected) results. Please indicate whether you are applying for a paper presentation (30 min) or a mini presentation (8 min). This helps us sort the submissions by topic for the workshop. Please make sure the submission contains the title of the paper, and the name, institutional affiliation, and email address of the author.
Your submissions are to be sent via email to verena.reiter@dgvfm.de by December 31st, 2025. We will get back to you by January 31st, 2026.
